Landcare ACT is looking forward to working alongside volunteers, community organisations and environmental partners to strengthen Community Nature Connection across the ACT following its selection as the preferred supplier for the Community Stewardship and Environmental Education Program and the Upper Murrumbidgee Waterwatch Program.
The Community Nature Connection proposal developed by Landcare ACT builds on the strengths that already exist across Canberra’s environmental community. Volunteers, Landcare groups, ParkCare groups, Waterwatch volunteers, citizen scientists and community organisations remain central to delivering environmental outcomes. The proposal supports Landcare ACT’s strategic goal of strengthening community nature connection by supporting volunteers, empowering local leadership and providing more opportunities for people to care for nature in their own communities.

“The ACT’s environmental sector is strongest when organisations work together in the interests of community and nature,” Ms Buckle, Landcare ACT Chair said.
“Our focus is not on organisational change or competition. It is on supporting the volunteers and community groups who already contribute so much to caring for Canberra’s environment and ensuring they have the support they need into the future.”
“Community volunteers remain at the heart of environmental stewardship in the ACT. Our plan is about strengthening volunteer participation and building on the experience, knowledge and local relationships that already exist across the sector.”

Landcare ACT is committed to working alongside existing environmental organisations, volunteer leaders, Aboriginal organisations, farmers, community partners and government agencies to build on decades of experience and local knowledge. We are not seeking to replace existing networks. Instead, we will strengthen connections, reduce duplication where appropriate and help create a more coordinated approach to caring for Canberra’s environment.
As contract negotiations progress, Landcare ACT looks forward to meeting with volunteers, community organisations and environmental partners to listen, learn and shape implementation together. Our priority is to grow Canberra’s environmental stewardship through the Community Stewardship and Environmental Education Program and Upper Murrumbidgee Waterwatch Program.
We believe the best outcomes for Canberra’s environment will come from working in partnership, respecting the contribution of those already involved and creating more opportunities for people to connect with and care for nature.
