Environmental Grants are open! 

Do you have a great idea to help local wildlife, restore a natural area, tackle environmental challenges, or connect more people with nature? Now is the time to make it happen.

The ACT Government’s Environment Grants program is helping community groups, schools, not for profits and individuals bring environmental projects to life across Canberra. Grants of up to $25,000 are available for projects that enhance, conserve and promote the local environment while inspiring stronger connections with nature.

From restoring woodlands and protecting native species to creating community education programs and supporting pollinators, Environment Grants are backing practical projects that make a real difference. Recent funded initiatives have included bee hotel programs for children, habitat restoration projects, weed management activities, conservation planning, and community led environmental education.

The grants are open to a wide range of applicants, including community groups, not for profit organisations, school communities, owners’ corporations and individuals working through a sponsoring incorporated organisation. Successful projects must be delivered in the ACT and align with the program’s environmental priorities.

The impact of these grants can be seen right across Canberra. In the past year alone, funding has supported projects focused on restoring grasslands and woodlands, protecting waterways, caring for native species, strengthening connections to Country, and encouraging more people to engage with the natural environment.

Whether you are dreaming up a local revegetation project, a citizen science initiative, a community conservation program or a new way to help Canberrans experience nature, the Environment Grants program could provide the support you need to get started.

Applications close at 11.59 pm on 25 August 2026, so now is the time to start planning and bring your idea forward.
