Festival of Nature

Landcare ACT is delighted to bring you the 2024 Canberra Festival of Nature.

Last Spring, Landcare ACT hosted our first ever Festival of Nature, with 100+ events encouraging Canberrans to appreciate and connect with the natural wonders of the ACT region.

This year we are back, and keen to showcase the Glorious Grasslands that call this region home! Natural Temperate Grasslands are a critically threatened ecosystem, and this year the Festival aims to support Canberrans to connect with nature, learn more about grasslands, appreciate their value and ultimately be supported to continue to engage in conservation activities after the Festival ends.

Throughout Spring 2024, a range of Landcare and other environmental groups/organisations will offer a calendar of exciting events unified under the Festival banner, centrally coordinated and promoted by Landcare ACT. The Festival will feature educational and interpretive walks, workshops and events highlighting these features.

The vision of the Festival is to empower the public to develop a meaningful relationship with nature, encouraging discovery, growth, and participation in ecological restoration activities now and into the future.

How to get involved

We are seeking volunteer groups and environmentally-focussed organisations to get involved in this exciting project! We want to showcase the amazing work you do to support our region's landscapes - grasslands, woodlands, wetlands, and more. We're particularly excited to share educational content about grasslands, their importance, and ways to get involved in conservation.

We invite your group to organise walks, workshops, resources, and events highlighting our region's natural beauty. If your group already hosts a spring event, such as a bird or wildflower walk, we'd love to include it in the Festival calendar! Groups are also encouraged to organise new events! Some ideas include:

Open garden style tour
Scavenger hunt for kids
Wildflower walks
Yoga in the park
Hands-on workshops (photography, plant ID, planting, propagation, etc).
Educational talks
Artistic or informative resources
